Information:
The tax stamps were introduced in France in 1859 to be paid by the recipient of missing or insufficient postage. The use of prepaid postage increased with the success of postal reform in 1849 so the extra value had to be paid by the recipient. Initially they were only for local campaigns. In 1852, the value changed to 1.5 c. and in 1878 to 2 c. In 1859 They were introduced as tax rates in 1859, from March 1947 on it was called stamp tax.

Nederlands:
De fiscale zegels werden ingevoerd in Frankrijk in 1859 te betalen door de ontvanger bij ontbrekende of onvoldoende verzendkosten. Met het succes van de postale hervorming in 1849 steeg het gebruik van voorafbetaalde postzegels, en zo ook de portokosten te betalen door de ontvanger. Aanvankelijk dienden ze enkel voor lokale campagnes. In 1859 kwam er de waarde 1,5 c. bij en in 1878 de waarde 2 c. In 1859 werden ze geïntroduceerd als fiscale cijfers, vanaf maart 1947 werd dit zegelbelasting genoemd.

Française:
Les timbres-taxe de France sont introduits en 1859 pour marquer sur le pli le port dû par le destinataire, dans le cas d'un affranchissement manquant ou insuffisant. Avec le succès de la réforme postale de 1849 et de l'accroissement du port payé grâce à l'usage du timbre-poste, la taxe postale à acquitter par le destinataire devient supérieure à celle de la lettre affranchie par l'expéditeur à partir de 1854.
Au départ, ils servent uniquement sur les plis destinés à être distribués localement à la campagne. À partir de 1882, ils sont utilisés sur tous les plis insuffisamment ou non affranchis qui subissent un coefficient multiplicateur de 1,5 en 1859 et de 2 en 1878.
Introduits comme chiffres-taxe en 1859, ils sont dénommés timbre-taxe en mars 1947. Les timbres-taxe dentelés disparaissent en 1988 et sont remplacés par des empreintes de machine à affranchir.
