Postzegel spreekt latijn

Op 27 december geeft de Post een postzegel (in het Latijn: pittacium) uit voor het jubileumjaar 2000 jaar christendom. De zegel van 17 frank toont sterren aan het firmanent en heeft de tekst: 'Anno 2000 Nativitas Jesus Christus Belgica'. Er hangt een vignet zonder frankeerwaarde met het logo van het jubileumjaar aan. Op een postzegel staat normaal de naam van het land van uitgifte in de taal van het land. Alleen Groot-Brittannië beperkt zich tot een gestileerde afbeelding van hun Koningin. In België wisselt men af: België-Belgique of Belgique-België. Af en toe komt daar in onze derde landstaal Belgiën bij. Deze keer is het alleen de Latijnse naam Belgica. Volgens de Post en minister Rik Daems is dit geen overtreding van de taalwet. Alleen de Nederlandse of de Franse benaming zou fout zijn omdat de ene taal dan de andere taal domineert. Overigens maakt 'Belgica' integraal deel uit van de illustratie.
