Joseph Vürtheim (Cleves, 1808 - 1900) was a German-Dutch lithographer. Vürtheim was educated by Alois Senefelder, the inventor of lithography. After completing it, he wanted to make a name in the United States, but he finally settled in Amsterdam. He is best known for philatelists for a number of stamp designs, including the number series from 1899 that later appeared in the Dutch East Indies, Suriname and Curaçao. Joseph Vürtheim (Kleef, 1808 - 1900) was een Duits-Nederlands lithograaf.
Vürtheim ontving zijn opleiding van Alois Senefelder, de uitvinder van de lithografie. Na het voltooien ervan wilde hij naam maken in de Verenigde Staten, maar hij vestigde zich uiteindelijk in Amsterdam.
Voor filatelisten is hij vooral bekend van een aantal postzegelontwerpen, waaronder de cijferreeks die vanaf 1899 verscheen en later in Nederlands-Indië, Suriname en op Curaçao ook werd uitgebracht. Daarnaast ontwierp hij ook Nederlandse bankbiljetten. (bron: Wikipedia)
