This stamp is made for the FIL European Luge Championships of 1971. The Luge Championships took place in Imst, Austria for the second time after having previously hosted the championships in 1956. East Germany won 1 gold (for Horst Hörnlein) and 2 Silver medals (for Wolfgang Scheidel and Angela Knösel), Italy won 2 gold medals (for Erika Lechner and duo Paul Hildgartner and Welter Pleikner), Austria won 1 silver (for due Manfred Schmid and Ewald Walch) and 1 bronze (for Manfred Schmid) and Poland won 2 bronze medals (for Barbara Piecha and duo Tudeusz Radwan and Janusz Krawczyk).
